  2. Hi there: you have Hanora Moran (nee Leamy) as born in 1872. I have recently been tracking the Leamy brothers of Matakanui. Honoria (as she was baptised) was the daughter of Patrick Leamy and Mary Dwyer of Ballyvoneen (downland) in the RC Parish of Ballycahill and Holy-Cross, North Tipperary. Her baptismal date on the parish register is 25 November 1870. Her parents emigrated on the SS Ionic on 31 December 1887 from Plymouth, England, and arrived in Otago NZ on 16 February 1888. The passenger list for this voyage records her age as 17, her brother John’s age as 27 and her sister Johanna’s age as 14. Nora’s occupation is given as Domestic Servant, her father’s occupation as Farm Labourer and her brother’s occupation as Labourer. They came to Matakanui where her uncle John had settled as a gold miner many years previously. I hope you find this info of interest. Good to find your site – keep going!! Best regards, Peter

  3. Hi Patrick, Nathaniel Jenkins who was son of Elizabeth Nicholl would be my first cousin twice removed. I have some photos of Jenkins, Nicholl and Smyth if you are interested. I loved reading the letters he sent to his cousin, I live a short distance from where he did and my granda was his cousin and friend too. One of his twin sons unfortunately died very recently,
Thank you for all your work
    Best wishes
    Beverley

  4. I am hoping some one can help me break this brick wall down in trying to find information about our GGGrandparents John Thomas Dougherty & his wife Sarah Frances (Mcpherson) Dougherty. They migrated to the UK as their son our GGrandfather John Thomas Dougherty was born in Orange New Jersey on the 21st June 1852. I have written to the New Jersey Births & Deaths to obtain a copy of JT Jnr’s Birth certificate & was told they didn’t have any records of him.The records I have copies of is JT. Jnr’s. Wedding & Death certificates.J.T. Jnr’s Obituary states that he is of Irish decent. He migrated to Australia at the age of 18 yrs because of health reasons. I am in able to find any information about his parents & wether there were other children. I do have the family of J.T.Jnr. & his wife Emily (Whitnell) Dougherty on Ancestry.com but have had no success there either.
