Mr O'Connor was born at Longridge on 31 August 1883. He was a self-employed farmer at Longridge until his enlistment in the Army on 20 September 1916.

He embarked for service overseas on 19 January 1917, and arrived in Devonport, England on 26 April 1917. He marched into Camp at Sling, and left for France on 26 May 1917. He marched into Camp at Etaples on 28 May 1917 and marched out to Division on 11 June 1917.
On 18 June 1917 he joined his Battalion in the field and was posted to C Company. He was posted to 2 Field Company NZ Engineers on 6 August 1917 and rejoined his unit on 26 August 1917.
Mr O'Connor was killed in action in the field, France on 20 April 1918.
